Increasing poverty caused by the crisis is provoking more\nviolence against women. Women are facing hunger, migration and human\ntrafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GOVERNMENT HAS ITS EYES ON WOMEN\u2019S RIGHTS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Violence increases\nthrough worsening living conditions, pay inequality, unlawful sackings,\nflexible and insecure work. Tying to prevent reactions to crisis and poverty by\nkeeping the \u2018family\u2019 intact, the government has its eyes on women\u2019s rights: Child\nbrides are glorified and marrying children is made easier; there are attempts\nto eradicate the right to maintenance payments for women; it is harder to\ndivorce; violence is legalised through mediation and preaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a country where\nthe head of the state is talking of\n\u2018disposition\u2019 and labelling equality as \u2018packaging\u2019, it is not surprising that murders of women quadrupled in the last 14\nyears. On the contrary, it is an expression of the fact that the increases in\nviolence, rape and murders of women is not a coincidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a \u2018Women and\nJustice\u2019 summit organised by Turkish Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) \u2013\na pro-government organisation that never took park in the struggle for equality\nfor women, that does not represent women\u2019s movement in any way and that always\nworked towards justifying government policies that imprison woman within the\nfamily &#8211; the President says \u201cSome say they are equal but let a man and woman\nrun 100 metres,\nwould that be fair?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>WOMEN START 100 METERS BEHIND<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is it fair to say\n\u201cWill we let you race equally with men?\u201d to the woman that walk to work every\nmorning under the threat of abuse; that work hard for 10-12 hours a day;\nworrying about the safety of her child(ren) she left with family elders,\nneighbours or nursery; for whom her performance targets mean even her time in\nthe toilet is measures; that has to do the housework after returning home.\nTheir labour exploited, working for the family at home for nothing, not only\nare women starting the 100\n meters in unequal conditions, they are made to run\nfaster, and even to death in that race. Therefore, you cannot speak of\n\u2018justice\u2019 without \u2018equality\u2019. Figures expose the violence caused by the\ninequality:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Erdo\u011fan\u2019s one-man administration, while burdening workers\nwith the consequences of the crisis, give women a special \u2018task\u2019. As seen in\nthe 2019 yearly plan, he wants to resolve the destruction caused by the crisis\nwithin the family. The family will be locomotive for facing the crisis caused\nby price increases, high inflation and unemployment; and women will carry out\nthe slave labour created by the crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN INCREASES DURING CRISIS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is known that\nall kinds of violence against women increase during crisis; making it harder to\ndivorce at such a time only aims to make the woman a prisoner within this cycle\nof violence. 34.6% of women in Turkey\nseek a divorce due to violence. \u201cWoman is an integral part of and the\nlocomotive for the family\u201d promises crisis to the family and slavery to the\nwoman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To undermine\nwomen\u2019s demand for equality&nbsp; &#8211; the most\nimportant agenda of women\u2019s struggle for centuries &#8211; Erdo\u011fan uses the hypocrisy of \u2018equality\u2019 offered in the\nimperialist capitalist system. He is trying to use public anger towards\nimperialist countries and institutions to undermine and defeat women\u2019s rights\nand struggle for equality. But women will submit neither to the hypocrisy of\nequality under the imperialist-capitalist system nor the government\u2019s\nimposition of justice without equality! This year, just as in others, all over Turkey\nand the world, they\u2019ll go out on the streets in solidarity, demanding an equal\nand free life, a future without violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>EMEP SALUTES ALL WOMEN IN STRUGGLE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On behalf of Labour\nParty (EMEP), I salute all women who struggle for equal pay in Europe; resist\nand fight bans on abortion, increasing violence and fascist reaction in Latin\nAmerica; fight for peace and democracy against jihadists in civil wars in Africa;\norganising against exploitation of her unrecorded work in Asia; fill the streets in the US against imperialist\nTrump\u2019s attacks against women of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I call on the\nwomen of Turkey\nto refuse to pay the bill for and carry the burden of the crisis; to break the\ncycle of economic, psychological and physical violence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We are Together\nfor our Rights and our Lives against Poverty, Exploitation and Violence!<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Long Live Women\u2019s\nsolidarity!<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>SELMA<\/strong><strong> G<\/strong><strong>\u00dcRKAN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chairwoman<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To refuse to pay the bill for and carry the burden of the crisis; to break the cycle of economic, psychological and physical violence against women!
